Williamsburg Loft

The apartment is in the old Hinds Ketchum Lithography company building in Williamsburg. At the turn of the century, it was a massive printing facility and one of the first buildings in NYC to use Mr. Edison's newfangled light bulbs.

We scraped layers of paint to expose the original bricks. We stripped and sealed raw steel. Every surface is a texture marked by one hundred years of use.  Reclaimed materials are abundant, including wire glass and custom steel frames used for transoms, doors, and walls. The careful placement of glass screening allows light to move through the rooms, changing tones throughout the day against the south-facing New York City view.
