Williamsburg Loft
Brooklyn, New York
Completed 2016
The apartment is in the old Hinds Ketchum Lithography company building in Williamsburg. At the turn of the century, it was a massive printing facility and one of the first buildings in NYC to use Mr. Edison's newfangled light bulbs.
We scraped layers of paint to expose the original bricks. We stripped and sealed raw steel. Every surface is a texture marked by one hundred years of use. Reclaimed materials abound including wire glass and custom steel frames that were used as transoms, doors, and walls. The careful placement of glass screening lets light move through rooms, changing tones throughout the day with the south-facing New York City view.
