WOODS HOUSE

In the Prospect Heights Historic District of Brooklyn, the Woods family created a warm lived-in home. Their townhouse marches along the street with the same historic façade details as its neighbors, but behind the brownstone is world unique to them.

There is no island in the kitchen—just a table. It is unpretentious and calm, which we credit to the client’s sensibilities. Generally, the kitchen is the most highly specialized designed space in a house, and that is true here. We focused on functionality and user needs.

Each level of the house has something special. For instance, in the primary bedroom, the floor is actually the original 19th century pine subfloor, sanded and finished with a clear coat.
